The Writing Assistant is built around keyboard access. You can open the menu globally, and you can also give individual modes their own shortcuts.

Default Shortcut

By default, the Writing Assistant uses Control + Space. To use it:
  1. Select text in an app
  2. Press Control + Space
  3. The Writing Assistant opens so you can rewrite, translate, or continue in chat

Change The Global Shortcut

  1. Open Settings -> Writing Assistant
  2. In Shortcut, click Change
  3. Pick a preset or record a custom shortcut

Preset Options

Single-key

  • Fn
  • Left Control
  • Left Option
  • Right Command
  • Right Option

Multi-key

  • Option + Space
  • Control + Space
  • Command + Shift + Space
  • Option + Shift + Space

Mode Shortcuts

Snaply also supports shortcuts for specific assistant modes.
  • The first 9 enabled modes get default shortcuts like Control + Space + 1, Control + Space + 2, and so on.
  • If a mode has its own custom shortcut, that custom shortcut takes priority.
  • You can manage mode order and custom mode shortcuts from Assistant Modes.
This makes it possible to jump straight into a favorite mode without opening the menu first.

Close the Writing Assistant

Press Esc to close the Writing Assistant window.

Shortcut Conflicts

If you try to reuse the current Dictation shortcut, Snaply offers to swap the two.
