Snaply tries to insert dictation directly into the active app. The Clipboard behavior setting decides whether that dictated text should also stay in your clipboard afterward.

Available Modes

Never save

  • Snaply inserts the dictated text into the active app.
  • Your previous clipboard contents are restored afterward.
  • If insertion cannot be confirmed, Snaply does not leave the dictated text on your clipboard.

If paste fails (Default)

  • Snaply tries to insert the dictated text directly.
  • If insertion succeeds, your clipboard is restored.
  • If insertion cannot be confirmed, Snaply keeps the dictated text on your clipboard so you can paste it yourself.
This is the default because it gives you a fallback without overwriting your clipboard on every successful dictation.

Always save

  • Snaply inserts the dictated text into the active app.
  • The dictated text also stays on your clipboard after dictation finishes.

Which One Should You Use?

  • Use Never save if you rely on your clipboard constantly and do not want Snaply to touch it after dictation.
  • Use If paste fails if you want the safest general default.
  • Use Always save if you often want to paste the same dictated text somewhere else right away.

Change Clipboard Behavior

  1. Go to Settings -> Dictation.
  2. Find Clipboard behavior.
  3. Choose Never save, If paste fails, or Always save.
When Snaply uses the clipboard as a fallback, the dictated text still remains local on your Mac.
